Family reunification, Cpr number, Baby coming

Hi i'm Eleana,

I will soon get married to a Danish citizen and we will apply for the family reunification program, the thing is I am pregnant of 4-5 weeks of him of course and I would like to know from the moment we apply how long before I get the CPR number to be able to give birth in the hospital in Denmark.

I have another question, in the case where i don't get my cpr number on time for when i'm suppose to give birth, how much does it cost to give birth in the danish hospital, i can't find this information no where....

You do not necessarily need a cpr.number to get 'free birth' at a Danish hospital, if you have an application for family reunification pending.

You can't find the info about costs, because it varies from hospital to hospital and from case to case. But I think not less than 20.000 DKK up to 100.000 DKK or more.

I didn't know that it was possible to get free birth if i've had a family reunification in process... is it written somewhere? should i call the hospital to have the confirmation, how does it work ?? Do you know any person that has been through this ?

You can contact the hospital closest to your home and ask.

Mind you, even though the actual birth help will be free of charge, any other kind of medical examinations and X-rays and the like will have to be paid for. And a scanning doesn't come cheap for instance but will cost thousands of kroner. For that reason most people have either taken out a travel insurance that covers those costs or prefer to give birth in their home country.

Yeah i know it could be very expensive, but i'm not quite sure that i am allow to leave Denmark during the process of family reunification,... and i guess it will even be more complicated to come back just after from my home country with a baby for the paper work...

You are not in prison so you can leave the country any time you wish. If you want to come back before your application has been processed, though, you will need to ask for a permit to return to Denmark.

Do you know any travel insurance that i could contact to cover the expenses.
Actually to give birth in my own country would be our last option if we have to. Right now i'm trying to find out how to get this baby out in Denmark.

You have to take out an insurance BEFORE you actually need it, fall sick or get pregnant. Once you are already ill or pregnant, the insurance won't cover any existing conditions.

There would not be other problems in connection with getting your baby to DK than getting a passport for it. It does not matter whether it gets born in DK or not, your baby will be a Danish citizen, since it has a Danish parent.

You should just remember that in about 20 years time your child must make an application to the Danish authorities about keeping the Danish citizenship, if it gets born outside of DK (a ridiculous condition, but that is the rule today).

The word "Fødeklinik" in the company name implies it's a clinic for giving birth. The whole website is only in Danish, though, but you can see the price list here:
