Reunification and getting pregnant

Hi,

My fiance is a Danish citizen and I am a US citizen. I am going to fly to Denmark this summer and spend three months, and if everything is going according to plan, we're getting married and applying for family reunification while I am in the country.

We've been trying for a baby for a while now, and my concern is, what type of insurance will I need to have while in Denmark, if I do get pregnant? We're worried about the medical bills and such.

Until you have received a Danish residence permit and been equipped with a Danish CPR number you will be entitled to the same free medical emergency help as any person visiting Denmark. That means immediate or life threathening emergencies will be covered free of charge.

Babies, however, is another matter that you can usually plan for. So whereas actual birth assistance in a hospital is usually covered being an immediate medical issue, the pre-birth preparations such as X-rays and the like isn't. So those you will have to pay yourselves unless you have some insurance that will cover it.

Thanks for your response! Would you know how long the usual waiting period for the residency is from when you apply until you've got an answer?

I think it's usually about 4 months but you can always stay updated on general processing times on the website of www.nyidanmark.dk
