Australian in DK

Hi everyone,

I'm a 26 year old Australian citizen currently residing in CPH with my Danish partner. Initially, I came here on an 'Exchange Student Visa' and I now hold a 'Working Holiday Visa'. As the Working Holiday Visa will expire soon, I was wondering if anybody can suggest any solutions for us to stay together in Denmark (/Sweden, perhaps)? All advice would be greatly appreciated!

The obvious solution is to get married and apply for family reunification. We have a written guide about that on the homepage, but for now only in danish language. So maybe better to read the text at www.nyidanmark.dk, which is also available in english.

Your advice along with the website were helpful, so thank you. Although the 'official requirements are also stated online, I am wondering if anyone reading this has applied for and successfully obtained a visa based on the merits of 'cohabiting partners'? If so, was it difficult? Were there any major challenges in the application? If so, what were they?

If one can prove about 18 months or longer cohabitation, there should be no problem as long as all other criteria are fulfilled. I don't know whether there are any current users who succeeded, but there have been several in the past.

Do these 18 months have to have been in Denmark, or can they be in other countries? F. eks. 12 months in DK, six in Australia?

Yes any place will do as long as you have proper documentation, for instance a house contract with both names or having registered both your names in the public registry with the same address.
