Advice needed.

Hello ÆUG.

I would like to ask for your advice about my current situation.

I have been living in denmark with my Danish wife for one year now. I have a Family reunification under the EU rules permit wich is valid until july 2017. Sadly my wife have decided to end the relationship as husband and wife. We definitely want to keep a relationship as friends but don't know what will hapend if she files for divorce.

I don't want to get kicked out of the country so I'm asking for your advice on what to do or how to manage this situation the best way so in the end I don't have to return to my home country.

If your wife is not in a hurry to marry someone else, you two may just move apart and live separately until you get your permanent EU-card. Under the EU-rules a married couple is not required to co-habit, it is enough to be legally married.

If you have been married for 3 years and lived in Denmark for at least 12 month, you can also keep your EU right to residence independently, if you fullfill the requirement of being a worker, student or self sufficient person. In other words if you can provide for your own living without receiving kontanthjælp.

So just to put an end to my question.This means that we can stay married but live in separate places . Do we have to keep the same adress or each one can have his own ?

You can keep your addresses separately as you should if you don't cohabit anymore.
