Work permits as a Residence Card Holder

Indlæg af Fr3dd » 20.03.2012 11:27:07

Good morning everyone,

I have some questions regarding work permits in Denmark. I'm from Venezuela and my couple is Spanish. We recently moved to Spain where I've obtained a Residence Card as her registered partner. This card gives me the right to work an reside in Spain as a family member of an EU national.

A two weeks ago, after a couple of interviews, we both received work offers in Denmark. As far as I know, my couple has the right to reside and work in Denmark and, as her partner, I can move with her but what about the work permits?.

I asked to the local authorities and they told me that I will need work permits of the Danish authorities but also they also told me that this paperwork is easy an quick for a Residence Card holder (but didn't told me a estimated time for this) Are they right?.

Based in your experience, how long does it take to obtain these work permits for a person in my situation?.

Thanks in advance!

Your partner is entitled to "free movement" in the EU and this also includes to bring her spouse or registered partner with her. If your partner find a job in Denmark, you are both entitled to stay here, and you will also have the right to work. This is not something, that you need to apply for.

However the right of residence for your partner - a spanish citizen - is not unconditional. She must be able to prove, that she will be in Denmark as either a worker, a student or a self-sufficient person. So a settlement of her job offer is a necessary first step in moving here. At latest 3 month after your arrival, you both need to register at Statsforvaltningen:

Thank you for your quick response!

So, for both of us, is just move there, start working and request for a registration certificate before 3 months since our entry to Denmark. Is that right?.

Basically yes. But in real life, you can hardly start working, before you recieve what is called a CPR-number. So visiting Statsforvaltningen is the very first thing, you must do.
