Taking a second master's degree?

Hi all,

I have a question regarding the possibility of taking a second master's degree in Denmark. I took my bachelor's and master's degree in DK under the rules of international student, which means I paid tuition fee for my bachelors, I got scholarship for my master's under some special conditions. Now I'm thinking about the possibility of taking another master's degree since I became a Danish citizen not long ago.

I unserstand generally it's not allowed to take another degree due to probably state budgets and so on, but since I paid tuition fee on my own during my studies, is it possible for me to retake one master's degree?

That you should ask the university about. But I am not optimistic, since it is not so much about the cost, because nobody will get a second SU (state scholarship) for the second Bachelor or Master's anyway. In general a second Bachelor or Master's will only be allowed if you can prove that the first you took has become impossible for you to use due to a physical handicap - such as a lute player having lost the use of a hand, or a surgeon suffering from impaired eyesight, or it has become useless due to your not having used it for many years.

I'd have to disagree. The country provides both bachelor and master studies under quite fair circumstances, which is something extremely rare if you compare to other places.

If you finished your masters and then found out - quite later in life in my opinion - that this is not what you wanted to do, then I think you should stop and think your life straight.

I understand what you're saying - and it's not like I regret what I've learned.

It's mainly because I find it difficult to find employment based on this education. I still love what I learned, but if it can't make me a valuable person in the society, paying taxes and earning income just like the others, then I might go for another education, right?

The job market fluctuates, and as it in DK usually takes two years to get a master's, the new qualifications you acquire may not be of any help in two years time.

One way of getting a job can be to find a place where YOU think you could be an asset, make a careful business plan that shows how little it would take for you to be costfree for the business the first quarter, and how little it would take before you would be generating income for the business, make an appointment with the business and present your plan. If they take the bait, at least you would be able to add experience to your CV, and it may become a permanent job.

If you really like what you studied, my suggestion is: don't give up trying.

It is better to happly do what you like than miserably do something else.
