Boligstøtte and family reunification
Boligstøtte and family reunification
Dear all,
First of all thank you for a great community here. A little bit about me: naturalized Danish citizen, graduated with candidate in 2016, now job-searching and on dagpenge (about 10000,- per month). I have mainly two questions.
1. Since we applied for FS for my wife last year, we moved into a bigger apartment which fits all the requirements by US, but the rent is a bit high, it's almost 8000,- per month and my income for both of us is 10000,-, luckily I have some savings before which is enough to support us for now. My question is, even though our apartment fits the criteria of FS, can US still think that our case is not strong enough and reject us, probably due to lack of income or whatever?
2. I applied for boligstøtte this month and got rejection, the reason in my opinion is absurd, it says "your rent is more than half of income, so even though we give you boligstøtte, it is still not enough to cover your food, clothing and other accessories, so we CANNOT give you boligstøtte." No shit, if I earn 25,000 ,- per month I don't need boligstøtte at all, do I? I find it utterly absurd and does't make any sense at all - I happen to know two of my couple friends which none of them have any income, their rent is about the same as ours and they can get more than 3000 in boligstøtte, which really confuses me. Could somebody enlighten us with probably some previous cases and the like?
I appreciate your patience and have a nice day.
Fortunate

Hi fortunate,
1. US does not care how much you earn, as long as you did not receive certain benefits within the past 3 years. You could have 0 income and live off your parents completely and it still would be okay.

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
You can check if it is a correct decision, which it may be. What they are saying between the lines is, that you can’t afford the apartment.
Fill in your info and see the result: https://www.borger.dk/Handlingsside?sel ... 59079cbded
If it should show a different result, write a complaint.

Thank you Kalida94, we've been waiting for 6 months and our case is "under behandling" ( 3 out of 4 bars) for almost two months now, that is why we are worried since generally it should take only 2 weeks after a case is "under behandling" to receiving the bank deposit letter.
By the way congrats on your case got through!
Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
Thank you mh. We actually moved into this apartment due to the housing requirements by US, we all know how difficult it is to get your own place in Aarhus. This apartment was actually the cheapest we can afford by the time we moved in.mh skrev: ↑22.01.2018 14:18:35You can check if it is a correct decision, which it may be. The website you provided is a calculator for boligstøtte, right? I have calculated and the result is the same as how they used to calculate on our case, there shouldn't be any miscalculations. I am mainly mad at their altitude.
Is there maybe anything else we might take action to alter the result?
Thank you again for all the help.

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
No, sorry. There are many reasons not to give this support, you would also not get it if your apartment was cheaper, but too big, like 100 m2 or more.

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
okay, it's good to know anyways. I always thought as long as you got your own ketchen you can have it.
Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
Boligstøtte is an old and outdated system that doesn’t support people without a steady income at all, it has a lot of faults. So yes, if you are really poor, Boligstøtte won’t help you at all which can seem very surprising.
Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
Now that you have found an apartment and your beloved is with you while waiting for family reunification, why don't you just look for another place? Just make sure it is more than 24 kvm and you are good to go.
If that's not an option just get a job in Netto until you can sort things out.

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
It's difficult to find your own place with relatively cheaper price in Aarhus. All the apartments that satisfies the requirements by US are fairly expensive with a huge sum of deposit you need to pay - and god knows how little deposit you are getting back when you move out. But thanks for the suggestion and I'll keep searching on boligportal.evc skrev: ↑23.01.2018 20:42:02Now that you have found an apartment and your beloved is with you while waiting for family reunification, why don't you just look for another place? Thank you for the thread on top of the forum regarding family reunification also, it's been helping us through some tough and confusing times.
Last I wanted to ask: if we get the family renunciation in the future, can we move into a shared apartment with another couple? if all the other requirements are satisfied, for instance size, number of rooms and such.
Let me know if my question is confusing. Thank you in advance.
Best,
fortunate
Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
I agree, some of the rules here seems unreasonable. But, ain't nothing we can do.
Thanks for the comment

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
No, you have to fulfill the requirements right up to the time your spouse gets permanent residence.

Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
As mh stated, the requirements need to be fulfilled until the day your wife gets the permanent residence permit. Udlændingestyrelsen has this very clear in their website.fortunate skrev: ↑23.01.2018 22:37:32It's difficult to find your own place with relatively cheaper price in Aarhus. Since it can take up to 8 years to achieve this, I suggest you to read how you can short to 4 years. You can read what is necessary and start working on it as soon as your wife gets her temporary residence permit. The sooner you start the better.
Re: Boligstøtte and family reunification
I appreciate your answer, evc. I heard from a friend that once you obtain the FS permit it is up to you where you wanna live - apparently that's not the case.evc skrev: ↑24.01.2018 15:07:50As mh stated, the requirements need to be fulfilled until the day your wife gets the permanent residence permit. I would like to ask what do you think of our case taking so long? I know some of my peers whose cases were "under process (3 grids)"about the same as ours and they already got the bank letter and yet we are still waiting for an answer.
Best,
Fortunate
