EU rules family reunification with German

Indlæg af sg2017 » 01.09.2017 06:37:10

I am a Canadian planning to apply for family reunification under EU rules with my German partner, who works full time in Denmark. I have been living in Denmark myself for 3 years, under student visa, which is ending. We have lived together for more than the required 18 months but I did not change my address immediately (for complicated reasons, I still kept a room in a another flat) although was living with him in his apartment. So, basically we don't have evidence of the full time of cohabitation to meet the requirement. Is there anyone who has had experience with this situation or could advise what other documents they would accept (letters from old landlord, friends, etc.?)
Thanks for any advise on this.

If you want to be sure to qualify, simply get married.

That said, 18 months of cohabiting isn't a strict requirement. I have heard of couples being able to use EU laws after just 12 months. But it is definitely cohabitation by being registered at the same address at the people's registry that you will have to fulfil.
