SU & study abroad

Hello,

I hold a permanent residence under EU rule for living 5 years in Denmark. I am currently a student at a Danish university and I am doing a semester (exchange) abroad.This is approved from my university as it is part of my education.
Since I had to leave my apartment in Denmark I have unregistered myself from Borger.dk and stated that I've left the country (although I set a date when I will be back).
I've also contacted Statsforvaltningen who said that I can keep my permanent residence up to 2 years after I've left the country.
However, today I received a letter from SU that I've had my "bopælsforhold" changed and I have to state whether I live with my parents or not. I do not.
And I am unsure what I have to select here (and if I have to select) as the system has already recorded that I will not be in Denmark.



I hope I am still eligible for SU even though I am abroad. Please note that I do not need to work 10-12 hours a week.

check the box for 'Jeg er på studie-/ praktikophold i udlandet (uden at bo hos mine forældre)' and state the dates you would be abroad.

Thanks a lot for the reply. I would assume it will not be a problem if I don't have anylonger address in Denmark, wouldn't I?

Hi i have similar case as im married with an Eu citizen as me a foreign national. I get SU as well. Since my wife was working part time 12hours per week and studying at same time. Now she finished her education and she is in A-kasse. Do you think it will effect my SU?

- How long have you yourself been living in DK now? If it is 5 years or more, there will certainly be no problem.

My guess is that your wife's status will not change immediately, since she is in a-kasse.

I have been in Dk for 7 years but 4 years since i have an Eu family reunification, but wont there be like i would have to pay all SU back from the time she receives A-kasse?

Other scenario, she is going to apply for her permanent next month, if she gets and starts her higher studies. Will my wife has to work in order me to receive SU?

Your help and any information is appreciated.

If you have been living in DK for more than 5 years - WITH residence permit, that is - you would qualify for SU on the basis if that alone, married or not, provided that you did not come to DK to study.

So if you came as e.g. refugee or to work, you are now entitled to SU solely based on the lenght of your stay. Thus there should be no risk of your having to pay back SU that you received after your wife stopped working.

when you say if you are living in Dk for 5 years, does that 5 years after getting EU resident card or is that 5 years include legal stay as a worker? and do someone needs to be working all those 5 years to get SU or can that be part time also?

Just to clarify my point.

I came Denmark as a student with student visa and during my stay here in Dk for 3years, i got married with my wife who is an Eu citizen and got family reunification status, now we have been married for 4 years.

1. I got SU based on her as a worker in DK. But during her work she was a student as well, but currently she finished her studies and looking for a job, as well as she receives benefit from A-kasse, she is soon going to apply for her permanent next month.

2. If she receives permanent and suppose she don't find a job, she will go for higher studies which will allow her to receive SU based on her permanent.

But, Do you think in any of these circumstances i still have to give back the SU or might be i should stop receiving the SU ?

I will have to pass that bucket on to SU - they must know how they interpret the rules.

I have a question do they consider the time when my extension was considered? for 1 year 4 months the immigration held my application so I was consideration time without visa. but I had CPR registered all the 5 years and was living in the country.
