Hi,
I'm an non EU citizen who came to Denmark 1,5 year ago as an au pair and one year ago started a relationship with a dane(I'm 26, he's 30). Ever since we met I'm living half week with him, half week with my host family and still working as au pair. Now we were thinking of living together under "family reunification" without being married. By the time my au pair visa expires (in 7 months) we would have been "living together/being in a relation" for 1,5 year, as minimum required for family reunification.
My questions are:
- as I work and live at the same place, the time I spend with my boyfriend does count as "living together"? how could we document it? I do not receive any mail at his address or have any other "paper proof" that I'm living with him/sharing bills, there's only my host family/his family/our friends who could be "witnesses" of our time together.
- i've been told "things are easier" if you get married first, but do you think we could get the reunification without getting married now?
we want to stay together but we don't really want to get married now...
I know it's a bit complicated but any advice or story about personal experience would be very helpful and welcome.
Thanks in advance
au pair/family reunification without marriage
Re: au pair/family reunification without marriage
You only qualify as an un-married couple if you registered your address with your boyfriend for approximately 18 months. As an au pair you probably registered your address with your employer, so you don't qualify as an un-married couple.
