Family Reunification for mother under EU law

Dear ÆUG,

I have a friend who is a Dutch citizen, he is going to move to Denmark for studying this August, the education will be in 3 years. After coming here, he wants to take his mother who is a non EU citizen to Denmark under Family Reunification for EU law.

I would like to ask if this is possible?

If he could, then are there any requirements that he needs to do or have in order to take his mother here?

Do they live together already in the Netherlands?

No, his mother is still in her home country. But he said his mom has been travelled to Holland, France and Denmark a few years ago as a tourist.

His mother is only covered by EU-law, if she is dependent on his financial support for her substinence.

I think so too, but when he sends the application, do you know how much DKK does he have to prove in his bank statement?

Or could you please be more specific what should he do to make a guaranty of finalcial support? Thank you.

They have to proof that the mother is already financially dependent on him. So show proof of where she gets money and how he has sent her money continuously for a long period of time

Beside he has to give proof of support finance for his mother. Is it possible for his mother also to give proof of support herself ? Or is it has to be him? Thank you.

The whole point is that the mother MUST depend on her son financially.

If the mother receives a pension of has sufficient funds to cover her costs of living, then she can't fulfill the requirements to use EU laws to move to live with her son.
