Problem with registering marriage
Problem with registering marriage
Hi dear people,
This is my first post in this forum, and before sharing my problem, I want to say I tried to read other topics in order to find relevant information to avoid posting a similar topic, but didn't have any luck to find relevant information to my case.
I am an afghan who is born in Iran and I have never been to Afghanistan. My girlfriend is Danish and we are to get married in Sweden in the coming months.
The problem is Afghans are extremely restricted and don't have the simplest rights in Iran, therefore I don't have a birth certificate or passport or whatsoever. There is also not an organization that I can claim a non-married certificate. I contacted Afghanistan embassy in Norway and they told me I can get a certificate from embassy in Iran. I don't know how reliable this certificate is because Afghans don't have the right to register their marriages and there is not a proof to prove that the non-married certificate is actually reliable and true.
Having said that, if I get this certificate from embassy in Iran, what is the procedure to legalize this certificate since Swedish authorities don't consider any Afghan paper authentic (skatteverket said that), because they believe anything by bribe can be made.
My questions are:
-Can I get married in Sweden Without birth certificate? (I have my Afghan-refugees ID card and school papers)
-To which organizations in Iran I should go to prove that this paper is made by Afghan embassy and it is not fake.
-Does my girlfriend have to pay (or myself) for health insurance in Sweden? I heard Sweden don't take responsibility on this matter anymore.
-If all goes well, and I try to get residence card in Denmark, do I have to provide them with a passport?
I may be able to get a passport if needed for the marriage in Sweden, but I would like to stay away from having an afghan passport if I seek residence in Denmark, because it is always an issue traveling with Afghan passport because they check every hole in your baggage just because of the passport and it is very embarrassing and humiliating. I just want to avoid that.
I appreciate any help
Thanks

Re: Problem with registering marriage
Try contact the Danish Refugee Council for advice on your specific situation.
And no, you cannot obtain a residence card or a residence permit without a proper passport.
As for Afghan documents you can read what the Migration Board writes itself in Swedish here: http://www.migrationsverket.se/Privatpe ... ument.html

Re: Problem with registering marriage
My wife didn't have her birth certificate either, so we spent a long time findnig a place to get married, where all we needed was a passport, a certificate of non-impediment was not required either.
The place was Georgia, Tbilisi, the las vegas of the region.
So if you can atleast get a passport, Tbilisi is a good option, super easy to get married there, and you can easily get a apostille stamp for document legalization.
You also shouldn't need to get a visa before going to Tbilisi, just go with your girlfriend, and have a hotel reservation, my wife had no problem getting in, and her Iraqi passport, isn't that good for entering countries either.

Temzen, Going to another land than Sweden is not an option for me. If I could travel, I would just go to either Iran or Afghanistan where things are even easier.
But if I understood correctly, you are implying without a birth certificate, it is impossible to get married in Sweden?
skaanebo, I don't understand why I should contact any authorities in Denmark?
In the link from Swedish Immigration service, they just refer that Afghan documents are not reliable (What I understood from google translator), they don't provide a solution.

Re: Problem with registering marriage
Danish refugee council is NOT the authorities. It's a volunteer organisation that provides advice for refugees.
Re: Problem with registering marriage
There are very few places in the world, where you can get married without a birthcertificate, including as far as I know. I don't know what kind of options there might be to get dispensation for the requirement however, you'd have to contact the relevant authoritize to find out. Maybe contact them a few times, if you are refused, in your situation I wouldn't take no for an answer, since you don't have a lot of options.
It's so difficult to be a documentless person.

Re: Problem with registering marriage
after your marriage did you have to legalize it? We got married in Sweden and wondering if the marriage certificate isgood enough or we need to legalize it?
