Cohabitation Question

Currently living in denmark as of 14/08, working here for 8 months, and then i believe my CPR will expire as will my contract for work (which i just got last friday)... my girlfriend (cohabitant) from the USA works remotely and is trying to come here and get her CPR in order to stay for the time that I am here, also can get documentation from the USA about cohabitant document if needed which I assume it is.. now..->>

1) is this possible as cohabitants for the time that I am here, as we are not looking for "permanent" residency but longer than the 90/180 tourist visa she could get for free

2) what are the necessary steps needed to take?

any information would be greatly appreciated!!

What kind of residence and wotk permit do you hold?

I am not 100% sure I just got notified I got it last friday and the team I am playing for (athlete (icehockey) permit maybe?) is getting my Tax # so I have not recieved the actual card yet. I assume I will have to go through the accompanying family member application? When I get the card I will report back..

"the residence and work permit has been granted to you with a view to temporary residence pursuant to the provisions of section 9a(2)(vi) fo the Aliens Act. Consolidation Act no 412 ....." does that help?

Okay, so 2 questions:

1. Which country are you from yourself?

2. Why didn't your girlfriend apply simultaneously with you for a work and residence permit?

1) I am canadian and

2) she is working back in the USA so it was understood that she would arrive at a later date.. all the CPR and immigration stuff was not handled by me i just got my tax card accepted today so probably wont get that for 3 weeks the email said. also the team is paying for her flight so also waiting on that its a fun situation

Okay, so you have not been cohabiting at the same registered address for the past 12-18 months?

If that's the case, your girlfriend cannot be granted a residence permit as your cohabiting partner. But if you have been living on the same address previously for at least 12 consecutive months, then she can apply.

By the way, your cpr number will never "expire", it will be yours forever but your residence and work permit will expire and will need to be renewed if you wish to continue staying in Denmark.

okay, so we have been cohabitating at the same address for the last little while 12 months + but i have gone back to canada once by myself and also once with her so will that make a difference or just that is information that wont have any affect on the process?

If by going back to Canada you mean going back on a short visit or for a vacation while still keeping a place to live back in the USA, it doesn't matter and won't affect your status as cohabiting partners.

k got it, so what is needed to accompany the application to prove the cohabitation do you know? will a signed affidavit work?

No, you will need proofs such as tax statements, utilility bills or contracts on the house or apartment that states both your names and your address if there is no people's registry in the USA.

Does a U.S. social security card, for instance, come with an address? I'm not sure.

Yeah there is no people's registry in the USA. Social security does not come with an address either. I guess a rental agreement with our names and bank statement maybe is what I'm thinking? I just wonder how aggressively they will investigate I understand immigration is a big a deal these days even if she is just coming to stay until march but I also know that if we only did the tourist visa she would only be able to stay for 3 months then not be able to come back for another 3 months correct?

As an American she doesn't need a visa to go to Denmark but she can max stay 90 days for every 180 days (and your cohabiting scheme will be broken so you won't be able to claim to be cohabiting in the future).

Yah I was told different about the tourist visa that's why I asked. I was told you can tag up back in the USA and then return for another 90 day stretch but clearly that is not the case.
The cohabitation thing is just something I thought could work since we have lived together in 2 different locations (both USA) but never owned a house or anything together unfortunately to tie this all together. But I fear we'd be rejected and then everything would become a mess especially if she was already here

Anyways, all the worries and trouble with proving to be cohabiting can also be solved with a marriage certificate.
