I would be very pleased if i can get some information about applying for the permit according to the danish rules. My girlfriend and I are planning to get married and apply for the permit here but we got a problem, she has been on help benefits from the government and has been out of the system for three months and she is working now. She is due to start school in either september or february next year and we want to know if we can get married and apply for the permit when she starts school or we have to wait for three years before we can apply for the permit? we are very confused as to what to do now as we dont know for sure if we can appy now or we have to wait. we have a 2 year old son now and it will be good if we could apply for the permit when she starts school so i can also help with the finances.

One of the requirements for family reunification in Denmark is, that the reference person (your girlfriend) has been free of the social system for 3 years. So it looks like, you do not fullfill the requirements at present. A dispensation can be granted, if it is impossible for you to live together in your country, or if your girlfriend has children form a previous relationship.

An alternative solution is to take advantage of the rigth to free movement in the EU. Please refer to the menu point "rådgivning" for further information about the danish rules for family reunification as well as the free movement in the EU. For now it is only available in danish language, so you might want to ask your girlfriend to read together with you. After all this is a common project for the two of you also.
