5 years residence card

Indlæg af aextremist » 13.04.2011 01:03:16

hallo to everyone
i have a general question
I lived in denmark for 4 years.. then i moved to sweden with my danish wife and we lived together about 1 year and unfortunately our relation could not see happy days and we got divorced.I am still going to school in denmark because of shortage of english medium schools in sweden...from the day we moved to sweden i have been living continueouly for about 2 years in sweden.I have a 5 years residence card.
Is it possible for me to get permanent residence ? and how to achieve it from the position where i am standing right now.

You can get a permanent residence card after having lived 5 years uninterrupted in Sweden. Your 4 years in Denmark are irrelevant in this aspekt. If you had been living in Sweden for 12 month and had been married for 3 years at the time of divorce, you will maintain your right to residence at an independent ground.

Be aware however, that the right to permanent residence card after 5 years is dependent on your self-suffiency in Sweden i.e. that you do not rely on the social welfare system to provide for your cost of living.

Study grants are not considered social welfare but a benefit so no worries if you would like to study. Mind you there are a number of requirements to be eligible, e.g. permanent residence or that your spouse is working in sweden. Im not sure how the rules are when you are divorced but I guess you won't be eligible until you get a permanent residence.
