Need help with EU rules and moving to Sweden and back.

Hi everyone.

I am a Danish citizen, trying to find a way to get my American boyfriend here to live with me in Denmark.
We've been together for about 3,5 years and only been physically together 7 months spread out in total. So we would really like to be able to stay together now, without the back and forth, sad goodbyes at the airport and pains of a long distance relationship.

Unfortunately I have received kontanthjælp and other forms of financial help from the state, during the last 3 years.
Plus the fact that I haven't been able to save up the amount you have to have set aside, according to the rules.

I talked to statsforvaltningen about it and she said the only way she could see, was us going through Sweden, by EU rules.
The lady from statsforvaltningen, told me that I needed to stay in Sweden for 3 months, with proof of living there. And that my boyfriend would only need to be there at least one day out of the 3 months.
We would have to get married of course, but after that we should be able to move back to Denmark.

But when I read some of the stories in here, it seems much more complicated than that.
So now I'm confused and looking for some advice in this situation, and it would help to have it mapped out as clear and almost point wise as possible.

So is there anyone that can help me with these questions?

1. How long do I have to be there and how long does he have to be there?
2. What do I precisely have to do to move there?
3. Who do I talk to and which order do I have to do things in?
4. What do I do after moving there to get my boyfriend there?
5. And what do we have to do, when we eventually can and want to move back to Denmark?

And I also have questions about the whole job and apartment situation.

6. What do I need to do before getting and accepting a possible job in Sweden?
7. Where can I find a job, I know that there is a Skåne tab on jobindex.dk, but where else do I look?
8. Where can I find a place to live? I'm thinking a small apartment or just a room should be enough.
9. And which do I need to get first? I'm thinking the job should be first?

I probably forgot something, so if you there is something else there would be useful to know, please do tell.

Thank you and have a nice day.
Bornholmeren.

1. The time you need to remain in Sweden depends on what you are going to do in Sweden. If you have a job in Sweden, 8 weeks working full-time is actually enough (though to be sure, 3 months would be safer). If you are not going to work in Sweden, 6 months would be an even safer bet.

2. Bring your contract for a house, flat or other residential housing in Sweden along with your passport to Skatteverket to be registered as a resident in Sweden. Afterwards, visit the Swedish Migration Board to apply for a residence card for your spouse (presuming you are already married).

3. See point 2.

4. As a citizen of the USA, your bf can freely visit Schengen states for up to 90 days. So he simply travels here and you marry. Then he can hand in his application for a Swedish residence card.

5. Once you have collected enough documentation to apply under EU laws, you can hand in the application at the Danish Statsforvaltningen. You can do so while still in Sweden and wait for thumps up from Statsforvaltningen before you actually move to Denmark. That way makes it safer and you don't risk being turned down.

6. Nothing. Having a job in Sweden is the key to success.

7. There are a lot of web sites in Swedish on jobs in Sweden. Google is your friend. And of course you can also use http://www.arbetsformedlingen.se. They have links to job databases too.

8. Finding a place to live can be tricky, almost as difficult as finding a job. It depends on location and your budget. Housing is typically easier to find out in small communities than in big cities.

9. Yes, good idea. Find the job, then look for a place to live.

Hi skaanebo

Thank you so much for answering and simplifying it for me. It helped a lot.
I was planning on going to a smaller town already, but do you happen to know of any webpages or the like where I can look for apartment and room listings?

Thanks again.
