Moving to Denmark to be with my girlfriend
Hello, everyone.
This is my first post around here and just as all of you, I can imagine, I am in a bit of a predicament and would appreciate immensely any help or tips.
So, here goes: Over a year ago I met a wonderful Danish woman online and you know how the rest goes. Anyway, we're very serious and love each other more than anything, and I've finally had the chance to visit her recently, even if for a month, and it has been the hardest thing ever leaving her, once I had to go back to the States. We talked about me moving to Denmark to be with her before, and now we want it even more, but surprise, surprise, the immigration laws are in the way. Her moving to States isn't really an option, as she's very close with her family, and from what I saw, I don't seem to be qualified for any possible way of getting residence in Denmark, since I'm just 21 (damn you 24-year rule!), don't have the right education to get study permit, and obviously don't have a specialized job/skill. I've looked at a lot of information, bust so far, nothing seems to be of much help.
Neither of us want to wait for years to be together, nor be somewhere else other than Denmark, but we have thought about maybe being forced to take the Sweden option. Now, I looked around and from what I seen, Sweden seems like so much less hassle, but even then, if there was a way straight to Denmark that would be nice.
Still, I would be mighty grateful for any information that could be of use in our situation, as well as any tips on both Denmark and Sweden. If there's anything more you need to know, don't be afraid to ask and I'll do my best to answer. Ahead of time, I'd like to thank you for all your help, friends.

Re: Moving to Denmark to be with my girlfriend
To be brutally honest with you, if there was any way your girlfriend would consider moving away from her family for a while, that would be your best bet. Not only because of complications with immigration, but because the USA is A LOT more open to foreigners when it comes to employment, language, education and culture than Denmark will ever be. Please don't underestimate the difficulties you will be encountering here considering you don't have any job skills.
Having said that, if she won't move away, moving to Sweden is the only other option you have. There is a subforum here on the topic but it is in Danish. It is a wealth of information.
I am so sad when I read about couples in love who are denied then chance to be together thanks to these brutal laws against non European young people who want to marry a Dane. I moved here soon after getting married at age 19 back in 1997 when it used to be easy. It all changed in 2001... Thank goodness that the EU made it possible for people to immigrate through another European country instead.
Good luck

Re: Moving to Denmark to be with my girlfriend
But if you decide to have her move the the United States, you will have to get married in order to get family reunification. There is no provision for live-in partners. You can get a fiance visa for her to come to the USA to get married. Spouses are not subject to numerical limitations on visas.

Re: Moving to Denmark to be with my girlfriend
Thank you for the responses.
Her moving to the States isn't likely, plus, I'm not that keen on staying here myself, so I guess we might have to look more into Sweden. I know it won't be easy, but I'll do what needs be. And yeah, those laws aren't making things easy, but thank you.
Also, If anyone has any experiences with similar situations, I'd be very happy to hear them. Every little bit helps.
