Swedish residence, not married

Hi.
I'm writing in behalf of my boyfriend.
I know I have been asking same question in Danish, but for my boyfriend to understand the process we going to go thru, I'm asking the question in English so that we both get the understanding.
I'm a Dane just moved to Malmo and I recieved my person number. I live in a student apartment.
My boyfriend is from Nigeria, we have known each other for 16 monts in all, and we are NOT married. I have visited him several times, he currently lives in tyrkey, I got all tickets and pictures from my trips.
Now the question is:
We will apply for residence by Swedish national rules from his home country Nigeria, online. does is matter what country he is from when they proceed the case? Like is it gonna be harder to get residence because of where he is from?
And can we be sure to get the residence just as unmarried couple or is a hard and impossible way to do it?
And what can the reason be if they reject our application? Is there anything we have to be extra aware of when we apply?
Thanks for your time.
