Two foreigners getting married in DK

Hello,

I am from Lithuania, have studied, worked and lived in Denmark since 2005.
I have been in relationship with someone from Morocco for over 2 years now. I have visited him there a number of times, he has visited me here in DK once and is coming for a visit soon again. We want to get married and start a family together here in DK (I am working as a pedagogue, and he would be studying the first years).

My question is - is it allowed, is it legal to get married while he is on a "visitor/tourist" visa or not? Do we have to apply for a specific visa for marriage purposes?

We want to do it here, because that works for us best practically (both families/friends being from different countries we would like to find a compromise).

I will be very grateful for any helpful information!

No, you don't need a special marriage visa to get married in Denmark. You only need to be in Denmark legally.

Wow, really - a simple visit visa is enough?

We are just afraid to do something wrong that could hurt our chances for him to get a visa again.

Him coming from a "risky" (immigrationslandegruppen) country we have been going through hell to get a visit visa for the first time. Took almost 2 years. So we just don't have the energy or will to take any risks.
But it makes me very happy to know that it is enough to have a normal visit visa.
I can finally start to see some hope in this very long and tough process.

Well, there are a few hurdles to pass:

HE will need to bring a certificate of being single, which must be translated to English, and legalized by the Moroccan authorities, probably the Foreign Ministry, AND the Danish representation: Danmarks Ambassade, Marokko

Also - likewise translated to English and legalized, his birth certificate, and of course his passport.

You must provide the same documentation from Lithuania (legalized with an 'apostille', which you must get in Lithuania). The Danish authorities will 'know' that you haven't married in DK.

But if you provide this documentation when you apply for a marriage license, it should be no problem - just keep in mind that you may have to wait 2-3 weeks from when you apply until you get the license and can actually get married
