Temporary Residence Permit

Hello! Thank you for a very informative site!

I need some insights about my case. I have been granted temporary residence permit already. However, instead of 2 years, it was cut short to a year because my passport is expiring. I am in the process of renewing passport (where my surname is changed because of change of civil status) and will probably get it after 4 months.

The letter says that we could appeal to their decision of shortening the length of my permit. Now, I am a bit confused between appealing so that they give me the whole 2 years that we applied for or just renew my residence permit early next year. Insights anyone? It would be greatly appreciated ^____^

Appeal on what grounds? If you do not have a new passport with a new expire date, then on what grounds would you appeal? You can not get a temporary residence permit what surpasses your passports expire date, and you do not have a new passport.

Just apply for an extension before it expires. The guidance, that you can appeal the decision, is a general one, which must be contained in all decisions from public authorities in Denmark. It does not mean, that they advice you, it is a good idea to appeal. And like soreng say, in this case it will in all likelyhood just be a waste of time. Particularly since it is free of charge to apply for an extension, and you will need to do that sooner or later anyway.

Thanks for replying. I am not planning to appeal now. I am fairly aware, that I can not do that without my renewed passport. I am just wondering which is the best action to take when I get my new passport. Whether I should appeal to get the lacking 1 year or just reapply. I decided to do the latter

Thank you! I was just thinking of reapplying instead. That I could absolutely do ^_^ I've been a frequent caller at the US and they kept saying that you are free to appeal but I thought with the timeline that I have, it'll be waste of my time and resources.
