Hello ÆUG, I am a non EU citizen that came to Denmark 5 years ago married to a Dane. We used the right of freedom of moment within the EU (EU rules) to come and live in Denmark. Our relationship ended but we remained married until present day.
As my 5 years residence permit is about to expire I would like to ask you for options in order to get permanent residence or to prolong my stay in Denmark.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Permanent Residence Help needed
You apply for permanent residence, submitting proof that you can support yourself.

Re: Permanent Residence Help needed
Thank you so much for your reply mh.
I would like to ask you the following question:
Does this mean that I can go to the statsforvaltningen office and apply for a permanent residence permit submitting profe that I can support myself and that I have been living in Denmark legally under the EU law for the past five years even though I am still married to a Dane and I am from a country outside the EU?
At the same time I would like to explain that we stayed married for all this time because we love each other as friends and we both until today have a really good relationship. Like I said, I've been living in Denmark for the past five years and back in my country of origin I have nothing to return to I love Denmark and I really feel this country is my home.
We know we cold apply with tha application form (OD2/D) but it mentions some very scary things like jail and fines. Is there something you could tell me about?
Once again thank you very much to those willing to help and to take the time to answer to this questions.

Re: Permanent Residence Help needed
No worry - couples using the EU-rules do not have to live together at the same address, they should just both be living in the same EU-country. You are not doing anything illegal.

Re: Permanent Residence Help needed
Thanks Again mh I really appreciate your help.
About the sufficient funds application. Is this also something I could do so I don't have to submit the (OD2/D) application.
The Danish person I am married to and me are very scared about the fact of our marriage being found a proforma marriage and that would bring strong consequences.
I hope you can still help me with my doubts and once again thank you so much.

Re: Permanent Residence Help needed
Don't worry about that. It started OUT as an ordinary marriage, and can't turn into a pro-forma.
It seems you need to show proof that your SPOUSE has had sufficient needs during the five years - and you should use an OD1-form:
