Renew EU-family member visa and traveling

Hi,

I'm from Portugal (EU) and my wife is from Korea, we live in Denmark and my wife has a temporary residence permit. A clerk from the State Administration told us that to renew her visa she needs to give back her current residence card. She needs to travel and we are a bit worried about the timing. If she renews it now the card may not arrive on time. On the other hand, if she waits to renew it, she will re-enter the EU about a week before her current visa expires. Could you shed some light on the following questions?

- May her have any problem re-entering the EU if her visa is about to expire (but not expired)?
- Does she really need to hand in her residence card? I should ask because I have received incorrect information in the past.
- She has the notification letter when her visa was approved. Is that enough to travel and enter the EU?

Related to this, let me add another question. She got a residence permit that expires the very same day that my job contract ends, which is insane. Is that normal? Now my job got extended so she can renew, but anyways it's of course unfeasible to move out of the country that very same day.

The important thing is that her PASSPORT should be valid for at least three months more at the time of re-entry. She can of course enter with a still valid residence card.
