Change of name

Indlæg af Hunkat » 27.09.2018 08:01:03

First of all, thank you for all the great answers in this forum. I hope you can help out with this one too. It might be a bit unorthodox.

My husband and I would like to have the same last name. I (DK citizen) changed my name at our wedding but do to a very lenght procedure for him (USA citizen) it was not possible for him to change his name at that time.
(Long story short, I had to show up in court in his home state, at a date and time given by the court to attest to our marriage).

Now we all but have his residency in Dk cleared (sent the finansial garaurantee today) and we would like to get it done now.

How do we go about doing something like that? With a residency in another country, will legal changes have to be made in DK rather than USA? What about getting it recognized legally in USA? And he should apply for a new passport too I guess? Does that affect the information given to the US?

Do we just go through Borger.dk?

For DK it is through borger.dk.

FOR the US, you should probably go to the American embassy in order to make it official to the American authorities.
