EU / Non-EU family reunification issues

Dear forum,

I have moved to Denmark in September last year with my wife. I have an EU passport but she is non-EU, so the expected time for issuing her residence permit was 6 months. This deadline was reached last month, and still we didn't receive an answer from SIRI (former Statsforvaltningen).
That in itself is an issue, but the most worrisome consequence is that in the meantime she is not covered by the Danish healthcare, or at least that is my understanding. Am I correct?

Also, does anyone know if appealing for the EU for support might be a good idea or if we might end up getting on their bad side?

Thanks!
Marcelo

If you fulfill the few conditions for EU-residence card, there is no ‘bad side’ to get on. DK is not a banana republic.

If you fulfill the conditions, your wife is entitled to healthcare, but will probably have difficulty proving it. If your worry is related to her being or becoming pregnant, my guess is that she, just like women who are waiting for the result of their application for residence according to Danish rules, can get the necessary medical aid by showing proof that she is waiting for her residence card.

Hi mh,

Thanks for the candid response. I do not think DK is a 'banana republic' in any way, which is why I expected the deadline to be met.
I am not worried about her being or becoming pregnant, but am glad to know she would be able to get assistance by presenting the document proving that she is waiting for her case to be processed.

Regards,
Marcelo
